In the late 60s and early 70s, she attended the acting school at the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco and acted in a number of their professional theatrical productions. Irving has appeared in films such as Carrie, by Brian De Palma (in which her mother, Pointer, costarred) and Deconstructing Harry, directed by Woody Allen. She supplied the singing voice of Jessica Rabbit in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. She has also appeared in several theatrical productions. She won an Obie Award for The Road to Mecca. Irving is the ex-wife of film director Steven Spielberg (November 27, 1985 - 1989). Due to her prenuptial agreement with Spielberg, their divorce netted her an estimated US$100 million. She had been living with Brazilian filmmaker Bruno Barreto since 1990 and they wed in 1996. She has two sons, one with Spielberg (Max Samuel) and one with Barreto.
